In July 2018 we made a decision to pledge 1% of our company profits, time, resources and equity to community causes we care about.
Only because of you has this been possible, so this is a quick note to share some of the fun, the feeling of contribution and joy that this has brought us.
We are regularly getting involved in more and more causes and if you’re ever interested in getting involved in initiatives like the below or want to join uscooking/running/building/
Cook a Meal Challenge – Milroy Lodge, Cancer Council
Recently we cooked for 15 guests of Milroy Lodge, a lodge for rural patients undergoing cancer treatment. By participating in this activity, we were able to give patients a much-needed night off from cooking during intensive cancer treatment schedules. We also had the opportunity to enjoy our cook up with the guests and to have a good laugh. In case you’re wondering, we cooked lasagne and a yummy yoghurt compote dessert!
Donation Drive – Ignite Mentoring
We ran a donation drive for Ignite Mentoring. This not for profit visits some of the lowest ranked High Schools in the Perth Metro area, such as Balga SHS, and Southern River College, and mentors students in year 8-10 on soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, and confidence. The activities run by the kids require a lot of resources, especially as many of the students don’t even come to school with lunch let alone own a pen. Ignite raises a lot of its money through sausage sizzles, and a lot of the funds raised go towards resources.
As a team, we banded together to donate everything from printing paper to whiteboard markers, spaghetti, pens, Sellotape, marbles, straws, foil, Textas and much much more.
Gift Box Creation – Wash House, Sydney
In Sydney, we bound together to support the Wash House, a community-based resource centre for women. Their mission is to reduce the impact of poverty, social disadvantage and violence on the lives of women and girls.
The above boxes were created packed full of ladies care items that many of these ladies lack access to.
The Colour Run – Diabetes WA, Cancer Council, Heart Foundation and Lifeline WA
We got very dirty and covered in all colours participating in the colour run supporting a range of charities!
The Colour Run, also known as the Happiest 5K on the Planet, is a unique event that celebrates amazing causes and healthiness, happiness, and individuality. Now the largest running series in the world, The Colour Run has been experienced by over 6 million runners worldwide in 35+ countries.
Blood Drive – Red Cross
We rolled up our arms, some of us a little squeamish, and donated much needed blood to the Red Cross. We donated red blood cells and plasma and learnt that 1 donation can save up to 3 lives.
White Caravan Donation
We donated much needed funds to White Caravan, an organisation that works tirelessly to to prevent the homelessness of Australian women and children through separation and divorce.
They deliver a range of solutions and services, along with providing respite accommodation. This donation went towards purchasing another caravan as respite accomodation.
Support and Speaking Engagement – Fierce and Fearless International Woman’s Day
We were asked to be a keynote speaker at Fierce and Fearless, a young women’s leadership program that works with year 9-12 girls from schools across Western Sydney.
The project’s aim is to engage local young women who have identified that they are ready to take the next step in developing self-worth, empowerment, inner-strength, leadership, and change-making, in order to create a more gender equitable and safe world.
Diamond Sponsors of Pink Ribbon & Men in Black Ball
This year is our third year in a row of supporting the Pink Ribbon Ball raising awareness and funds for breast cancer.
It is also the 3rd year in a row we have had the honour of sponsoring the Men in Black Ball to raise awareness for men’s mental health.
So thank you, to our valued clients and all our stakeholders for making it possible for us to give back to the community and contribute.
